I don't have the manual at hand, but the diff between 68 ohms and >500 
does sound significant!

OTOH -- do not always assume meters are necessarily accurate.  When I 
built my WM-2 a few years back, there was a "kitting problem" and it was 
off by close to a factor of two.  I sent it back to Oak Hills and they 
fixed it.
