Subject: [Elecraft] K2 keying bandwith reduction -- update
Are there any news on this mod? I had some complaints of clicks from our
SSB station on the same band during Field Day.
73 and Happy Thanksgiving,
Andreas, KU7T
Ken,
I am at this very moment in the midst of finalizing the minor changes needed
to
cut the K2's keying bandwidth approximately in half, which will put it in
line
with other transceivers that have state-of-the-art on-air keying
characteristics. It will probably involve both a small hardware change and a
firmware update. (I recently upgraded the Microchip compiler I use for the
18C452, and as a result have plenty of ROM available to make the mods.)
Regarding your specific K2: I have e-mailed the party you loaned the rig to,
as
well as the station monitoring, to get as much information as possible. At
this
point it's not clear whether the problem was with your PA or the K2 itself.
I'll
contact you off-net about possibly borrowing your K2 for a few days to use
as a
test case for the keying mods (no charge, of course).
73,
Wayne
