I don't see it this way, in my experience. I've been an avid CW op. for 49
years now, and I can easily "head copy" 50 wpm. I can't send more than
about 35 wpm, though, without making too many mistakes. No "moving parts"
required to receive....but not so on sending! When I can get my fingers
limber and get rolling good, I can send pretty good....a good tailwind
helps...but I can always receive much faster than I can send.
Usually when you hear the QRQ stations sending 50 wpm and higher they are
using keyboards or computers in some fashion to do the job. Some of them
are excellent....some are pretty bad to listen to. The keying
characteristics of the transmitter are also a very important factor when you
try to send QRQ if you want it to be decipherable at the other end (rise and
fall times can approach character element times when speeds get high
enough).
