Subject: [Elecraft] Elecraft KX1 and the HFPacker AMP
Just a note to the KX1 gang that the KX1 and the HFPacker amp
from www.hfprojects.com <http://www.hfprojects.com/> make a good
combo. Running on the KX1 on internal batteries gives 21 watts
output from the HFPacker amp. The dimensions are approx the same
too. Both rigs are being powered off of the same 12v 7 amp Yuasa
battery right now with the KX1 drive control pot set low a few
degrees. At full KX1 power, the hfpacker amp outputs 50 watts as
measured on my Comet CMX-1 SWR meter.
At 21 watts, 5.8 amp is required. At 50 watts, 9.8 amps are
required. I've run SSB back pack operation off of the FT817 SSB
with this same amp and battery for over a year now with excellent
results.
Only the RF connection is needed to key the amp but some might
find a PTT connection more to their liking.
