As always, if John ki6wx designed it, the mod will work great! I had to do
the KSB2 mic gain mod, just not enough gain for my voice and a Shure 444
mic..... Now I'm getting very good audio reports from a tough crowd of
75-mtr ops that are quick to compare my K2 audio to their Collins, Drake and
Swan rigs!!! They're now telling me my audio compares more to my ICOM 751A,
which is a nice-sounding SSB rig and lots of audio punch to boot!!! And, an
added feature is that I can use the VOX feature now, whereas before there
wasn't enough punch to reliably operate using VOX!!!
The mic-gain mod took me at most a half hour to do, most of which was spent
finding the parts in my junk box.
However, word of caution, I did the initial mod by stretching the T2 wires
across each other and this worked for a while, then I suddenly started
losing sensitivity. DAMN! I knew it had to do with the T2 mod on the KSB2
board. So.after screwing with it for a while and risking damage to the
circuit board pads I decided to pull out T2 and rewound it to make more room
to cross windings 2 and 4. Now the receiver works great again and I swear I
have more receive sensitivity than before. well, maybe! HI
Tnx agn John for another great effort improving the K2!!
I may in the future do the band pass mod ki6wx also describes on his web
site.... Ive heard really good things about it and it's worth the time it
takes to do.
Cheers.... k6sdw
