When running a frequency the contestor can receive simultaneously many =
signals in the pass band with varied frequencies, varied sending speeds, =
signals from s2 to s9, perhaps some qrn and qsb.....  it would be an =
amazing algorithym indeed that could lock onto a particular signal to =
record a call sign correctly the first time.  My experience with =
successful vanilla decoders required a strong signal, a certain pitch =
and perfect code to make sense out of it all.  In the ear lies an =
amazing decoding algorithym!
