For starters, I consider an RF signal generator and a DVM with an RF
probe essential. Unless you have a large supply of various new vacuum
tubes to use for substitution for tube-type equipment, a tube tester is
handy to have.
As you progress in this endeavor, other more sophisticated test equipment
may be acquired -- such as an oscilloscope, etc.
