Seeing as how I have a decent supply of the stuff, I often use #28 magnet
wire whenever I am mobile with KX1's big bro K2. One piece for an antenna
either slung over a balcony or tacked up on the wall, and another length for
a counterpoise snaked around the room somehow. It IS really tough seeing the
stuff, and if someone or something inadvertently gets snarled in some it
easily breaks instead of pulling your rig onto the floor.

As an aside, during clean-up on the last day of a recent vacation, I pulled
up the 60' vertical that I had lowered immediately upon arrival at our
condo ("Get the luggage and kids out of the car, dear?! Wait a minute, gotta
get the antenna up first...") and found someone down below had removed the
lil bar of courtesy soap I was using for ballast and replaced it with an
empty soda pop can. Despite its unsolicited nature, it seemed like an OK
trade. It also made me chuckle.
