[Elecraft] How to tell if the PCB pad is bad.. thx

Thanks for the responses. I clipped out U3 and pulled the remaining
pins out while I heated the pads. I noticed that some of the pads came
out too (doh!) However, the solder collected in where the remaining pad
was. I checked for continuity to other parts of the circuit and it
checks out (almost like the solder made a new pad???). I also just
ordered stainless steel dental picks from Milestone Technologies to make
sure the holes are clear for the replacement U3 chip I will order from
elecraft tomorrow.

BTW... after removing the chip, I put the display board back on and
turned the K2 on. It acts the same as when the chip was in there. This
further reinforces my theory that the chip was bad because of
overheating it.

Thanks again guys... this is a great list. You know, this whole
experience has helped me learn more about the K2 (well, the display
board anyway :) and with my technique of desoldering. I always try to
see how I learn new things from my mistakes. Thank goodness I did not
ruin the board... ("hello elecraft? Can I just buy the display board
part of the K2" hehehehe)
