[Elecraft] Encoder installation

In the processing of installing the 4 wires that connet to the "encoder"

pin # 2 (reading from left to right from the rear of the the encoder)
pulled out due to excessive heat and while trying to remove an
incorrectly attached wire.  I applied heat to the pin and reinserted it.

Question:  Is there anyway I can test the encloder to see that it is OK
and/or determine if I need to replace the part.

P.S.  I am about 12 hours into the construction and having a wonderful
time.  Its a great radio.
