[Elecraft] K1... paranoia sets in

Hi to the group. This is my first post.

I've been a subscriber to the group since last fall and finally ordered a K1
two weeks ago. I started assembly a few days ago and got the four-band
filter board assembled with no problems. I am currently working on the
front panel assembly. I'm to the section just prior to the insertion of U1
into its socket. The second instruction on P.21 says to check all adjacent
pads on the U1 socket prior to insertion. The resistance between all pads
should be greater than 1K... "and may read infinite" as the manual says.
Well, the resistance on all adjacent pads does read infinite on my DMM,
EXCEPT between pads 11 & 12 and pads 31 and 32; the resistance between these
pads reads 8.05K... Yes, I know.. 8.05K is a lot higher than 1K, but it's
not infinite. There is a large trace between pads 11 and 32.. and pads 12
and 31 both go to ground; not surprising that these adjacent pads read the
same 8.05K value.

I know I'm being paranoid about this and should just surge on, but I'd
thought I'd ask; is this normal? Should I be looking for a solder bridge
between a pad a ground? I've examined the board and everything looks OK.
Any input would be appreciated.

I've been a ham since the mid sixties. I built quite a bit of Heath gear in
those "earlier" days and have become quite interested in QRP work in the
last few years. I have built a few small monobanders over the last year and
decided to do the K1 as a prelude to doing a K2 for a base rig. I'm really
happy to be a member of the Elecraft community and this group.

Have a great holiday weekend.
