I have the ATU in my K2, and it is THE shack radio.
I use the ATU a lot, as I'm always experimenting with
antennas and moving from band to band.  The ATU truly
pays its way.
Oh well, you can add it later when you get tired of
running a manual tuner :-)

Didn't go for the internal batteries or ATU as this will be the main rig
in the shack. The K1 will still be the main portable rig for now. I look
forward to building it, but will be taking my time. I'll let you guys
know when I've had the first QSO...
