[Elecraft] problem on adjusting power output K2

Hi All,

Just finished my second K2, but when trying to adjust the internal PA
(40mtr Transmitter alignment) I get instantly 14W RF output after pressing
Tune, no matter what.

other info:
- while turning the power pot duting RX , the displays shows P 0.1 to 15.2
at min and max setting
- power pot setting seems not to have any effect on the RF output level
- I use an external power meter and 50 Ohm dummy load, all tested with MFJ
259B ant. analyzer
- Almost every other band will put out 14W RF immedeately, or when just
touching the power pot  (10 &12mtr slightly less output), and I have not
tuned any filter besides 40mtrs yet.
- when activating a transverter setup band and setting its max power to 1,
2, or 4 W, the RF output is always exactly 1.5W
- Usually I get a High Current message, since it is shows 2.44 at the 14W RF
output level, which makes sense
- RX current is 0.30 and both voltage regulators do get warm since the first
alignment procedure. But you can still touch them.
- When de-tuning the rx filters the RF output does change kinda 'jumpy'
untill it suddenly dies (detuned too much)
- checked and re-checked potm solderings, circuit boards etc.

- have not done any full reset yet

I was not able to find any info in the trouble shooting list nor in the
archives.
Does anybody have a clue here?
