Elecrafters,
I occasionaly visit K3WWP's website
(http://home.alltel.net/johnshan/index.html) as he tends to cater to the QRP
ham. I would recommend a look. Anyway, I was looking through some of his
past polls and came across the one mentioned below. It looks like Elecraft
is the rig of choice for the QRP community. Of course there weren't a whole
lot of repondents (143), but it's probably not too far off.
Cheers,
Colin
#39 - What rig (manufacturer) do you use most often for QRP?
Date: 9/15/02-10/14/02 --- Selections: 143
Rig Nr Pct
Elecraft 38 27%
Heathkit 7 5%
Homebrew 13 9%
MFJ 22 15%
Oak Hills 5 4%
SGC 1 1%
Small Wonder 14 10%
Ten Tec 13 9%
Wilderness 8 6%
Other 22 15%
A repeat of an earlier poll shows pretty much the same results with the K1
and/or K2 rigs being the class of the field. This bears out a prediction I
made several years ago that if a really good 9 band QRP rig was developed it
would be a big seller. The single or double band rigs are nice, but a
dedicated QRPer should be using something that allows him or her to cover
all the HF bands. Only a couple of those who voted for other bothered to
eMail and tell me their choice. One said he used a collection of rigs, and
the FT-817 also got mentioned.
