I have the VS-35M from Astron which is not much more than the
RS models the VS also has front panel adjustments for voltage and
current limiting along with front panel meters. The range of the front panel
meters are 0-40 amps and 0-15vdc. The current limiting is very nice
because it can be set for anywhere between 1.5Amps to maximum
I am just running a basic K2 for now so I only need about 3 amps and I
have the max current set for about 4-5 amps so should anything
go wrong and exceed my current setting the power supply automatically
shuts off the output and there is nothing to reset other than just turn
off what ever is connected to the power supply. I don't believe
the RS models have current limiting if they do it will set at the
max current it can deliver a RS-35 will set at 35 amps. I know
the folks at Elecraft have put fuses in the K2 and the K2/100
to protect the radios. I just checked at Texas Towers and the
RS-35A is $149 and the VS-35M is $179 to me the extra $30
is added insurance to help protect my K2 from me while I am working on it
or just trying to tweak it a little, you would be amazed what just a
dropped screw can do to a PC board. Well I need to get back to
the Indiana QSO Party
