Len, I ordered the temp upgrade and waiting for it to arrive.....I find it
interesting that you can get that close to 10.00000mhz! I just tune by ear
and within the last 100hz or so the freq in my headphones gets so low I
can't hear the beat difference any more!! Old age, I guess?

How does you do that?

tnx....73 ed

Hi Ed,
Well, I took a combo approach. First, I tune the rig to 10 MHz in CW mode,
then I turn on the spot function. Next I tune for zero beat (i.e. match the
tones exactly). I can hear a small warble in the tones if they are not
exactly matched. Usually one side of 10 MHz or the other has a slower
warble, telling me that I am within 10 Hz of the dial reading. This test
alone really tells me where I am, but I also used my TS2000 to help verify.
I tune in the WWV signal in AM mode on the TS2K (making tuning less
critical) and LSB or USB on the K2. Then I zero beat (match) the
transmitted tone on sideband with the AM tone. This gives me the same
answer, so I know that I am right on freq.

Trying to zero beat WWV on sideband is not an accurate way to go for the
reasons that you identified, old age or not.

To determine if my transmit and receive frequencies are the same, I put both
rigs on dummy loads, turn the power down to 5 watts or less, then send back
and forth matching received tones to side tones. I tweak the TS2K in fine
(1 Hz) tuning mode until the tones are a equal as possible. I was happy to
see that the transmit and receive freqs of the K2 are right on the money.
