The free version of Mailwasher is at http://www.mailwasher.net - a
small donation is recommended. Mailwasher Pro which has more
functions is around $30. I have been using the free version for a few
weeks and it is very useful, although I am dubious whether its
'Bounce' function really helps to reduce spam. The big advantage is
you can delete big spam mails before downloading.
I also subscribe to uk-contest and sd-user which are on the
contesting.com lists. I am not sure whether this uses the same
software but Google shows hits of my email addresses in its archives
as well as Elecraft. I used to have three of my email addresses
mentioned in my mails (in the header and my signature) and was
getting simultaneous spam to all these addresses, perhaps proof that
the bots had found them in archive emails somewhere. I have now
changed my signature so only one email address appears. mailto links
on my website use javascript encoding but it is a losing battle to
get rid of other places they appear.
The CDT report mentioned
(http://www.cdt.org/speech/spam/030319spamreport.shtml) is
interesting reading but does not cover this aspect of spamming from
email archives.
