[Elecraft] OT: general idea of onboad battery chargING

Hi folks -
This is off-topic, but the minds on here are too brilliant to ignore. I have a marvelous general coverage receiver to supplement the K2. It's a Palstar R30. Footprints are about equal. I would like to recharge it's batteries,using my smart charger, without having too remove the batteries. Even though I'm not a technician it seems that it shouldn't be too difficult. Can someone point out the general characteristics and requirements of creatting a rechargeable circuit? Or perhaps point me to an article? It would probably be better to respond directly to my email since this is OT - thanks in advance.
