[Elecraft] Which Wireless Network for K2?

I'm noticing that when it comes to wireless network, there's an alphabet 
soup to deal with......802.11a, 802.11b,....... 802.11g.  Any preference 
for which works best?  Are all compatible for K2 control?

I'm planning to go with cable modem to replace dial-up internet connection 
& then a wireless router to feed the signal to my laptop for remote 
control and my K2 will be located by the desktop computer (800 MHz 
w/WinMe) which will be hardwired to the router. 

Alternatively, I may have the K2 at the office tied to the internet via a 
computer here, & then control the K2 from home....16 miles distant.
