More on the birdie at ~28707 kHz:

Ron, AC7AC said his birdie doesn't change when switching the pre-amp and
attenuator on/off.  Mine does -- it's weakest with the attenuator on and
strongest with the pre-amp on, just like a normal signal.

I also noticed that its frequency shifts downward as I narrow the xtal
filter bandwidth.  No difference whether it's in USB, LSB, CWn or CWr
modes - always a downward shift with narrower filters.  My filters are
aligned perfectly, i.e., there is no frequency shift on normal signals.

This birdie does not annoy me -- it's quite weak and in a portion of the
10-meter band that I'm never near.
