Yes, here's how I did it:  I held the crystal in a Panavise with plastic jaws. 
I polished the spot where I would solder the wire with some scotchbrite, and
then tinned it quickly.  Then I added a bit of solder to the wire, held it to
the crystal with needlenose pliers, and soldered it.  By tinning both the wire
and the crystal first, it was not necessary to have a prehensile tail to hold
the solder.

I don't know if this is the best way, but it certainly worked for me.
