First came the Sierra, then the K2, then the K1. I designed the Sierra in
1993-4, and upgraded it for Wilderness Radio in 1995. (The Sierra schematic in
the Handbook from 1996 on is the original NorCal version.) Eric and I designed
the K2 starting in late 1997, with the first working prototype around April,
1998. Once the K2 was well into production, we realized we could use many of the
same ideas to create a much smaller rig for camping, one that would be easier
for first-time builders, hence the K1.

Not true. I left out 10 and 12 meters in the club version of the Sierra because
the TX strip didn't have quite enough gain. But the Wilderness Radio version has
more gain, and yes, you can get both of these bands for a Sierra. At least you
could last time I checked. I haven't talked to Bob at Wilderness for awhile.

Back to the K1: I know of at least two customers who have put their K1 on 10
meters. Sorry I haven't been following this entire thread--someone may have
already mentioned this. You have to jump through a couple of hoops to get 10
meter coverage, but it's not impossible. Perhaps those who have done it will
post (or have already posted) their 10-meter K1 solutions.
