I was really looking forward to this qso party with other Elecrafters.
But on Friday noon, while a friends wife of mine was walking my dog
Pierrot, he found a bone, and although she almost immediately took it out
of his mouth, after about 100 meters he just fell down on the road. He just
could not stand on his legs. Given that we have had five other dogs
poisioned by rat poision in this area, whe understood that this was
serious. Someone is putting rat poison on bones and throwing them beside
the road. The Vet was closed until 1500 and the emergency 24 hour Vet did
not even answer the phone. Christine, who knows a lot about nature medicin
run to a neighbours garden a found a fruit that contains vitamin K. We fed
him with this for a couple of hours before we arrived at the Vet's office.
She gave him a shot of athropin, which most of you who have been soldiers
know is good against most toxic agents. She kept him overnight for
observation. I took him home on Saturday, very weak and with a bag loda of
medicins. So to the enter the EQP at that moment was out of question.
Finally on Sunday morning when he was sleeping after having his medicin I
tried to listen around a little bit. I tried a little bit cq and answering
others, but to no avail. But then, of course, I heard Bob W0SOC, not very
strong, but there a contact. Usually Bob is very strong from Florida, even
at 5W, and this gave me the indication that the condx were way down from
the Caribbean. Do I still have to submit the log for one qso, just to
enable Bob to count me in? Or is it like in normal contests, that you just
jump in and your qso is validated anyway? Well, I was on battery power, so
that already gives me 25 points. I think I am the only K2 on this island.
And being that FG is a considered a country, I might gain the award for my
country :-)
I hope someone will arrange another EQP in the very near future. I really
would like to make No. 1 and 2 and of course, by that time, I sincerely
hope that N0SS will be there. Best wishes for recovery to you OM.
