That's not unlikely. It helps to have a bit of waste wire on the ends
where the continued bending can be greatest. Be sure you're counting the
turns correctly, however. Every pass through the center is one turn.
Thus, if you just pass a straight piece of wire through the toroid's hole,
you have wound one turn.
You can leave a couple of inches sticking out at the beginning. Just cut
off what you don't need after you've stripped and tinned the "ends" near
the core. 1" of tinned wire should be more than enough.
