No, it's not typical with most of the contest logging software -
most

of them use the {quot}canned report{quot} - 599 or 5NN for the major
contests

and I've noticed in a lot of QRP contests & sprints there are
many

559s being sent by stations who are sitting on one freq CQing, but

with some of the contest loggers you can make it send the signal

report that you want sent (NA Logging program does this - I'm not

sure about the others).

I'm trying to make the transition
from paper to computer

logging, and the Elecraft even seems like a good one to

start with...but I'll probably still be using my paper while

in QSO, at least for cw (sent by bug, not keyboard).
