[Elecraft] EQP Logging

I'm realitively new to contesting and have no experience
with logging software.  Hence, the following questions:

Do folks run the software in the midst of the event?  I am
aware of automated software, which I guess will integrate
keyboard sending and logging.

I notice the EQP software requires that signal reports be
entered for every QSO.  Is this typical?  Maybe this is to
encourage genuine reports instead of automatic 599 for QRO
and 559 for QRP.

I'm trying to make the transition from paper to computer
logging, and the Elecraft even seems like a good one to
start with...but I'll probably still be using my paper while
in QSO, at least for cw (sent by bug, not keyboard).
