No problem.  At the bottom of the right hand column on page 11 of the K2 
manual, is says "Since all holes are plated through, you can solder on 
either side."  No need to risk damaging the board trying to remove the 
solder or resoldering on the "recommended" side.

If you look at the schematic for the front panel board, you'll find R15 
and R16 in about the center of the page, just above the symbol for the 
shaft encoder.  One side of R15 indeed is connected to R16, so you're 
probably OK.
