I think a good soldering station is really the way to go.  It will give
you stable and adjustable heating.  All of them have interchangeable
tips.  There are many good ones.  I have an Edsyn 951 SX which has
worked very well for me.

solder iron?  I have a Heathkit Solder Station GH-17A.  Are the solder
