There are a couple of potential problems with wiring the lid connector
directly to the power supply. If you turn off the supply or loose AC
power, the battery could discharge back through the supply because you
no longer have the K2's reverse protection diode in the circuit.

The other is that without that diode you want to make sure that the
supply is set to 13.8 volts, not 14.0 or 14.2 as normally recommended
(to account for the diode drop).
