FW: [Elecraft] K2/100 -RS232 problem

If I short together pins 2 and 3 on the cable connector that plugs into the
KPA100, I can see what I type in Hyperterm. If I remove the jumper I don't
see what I type. I have set up Hyperterm to com2:4800,n,8,2(also tried 1).
If I connect the cables and run Hyperterm and send a test message form the
K2 I see the freq displayed on the screen - FA00021234000;
With the cables connected I can't see what I type on the screen of
Hyperterm. Also, sending SW01; doesn't do anything.
Voltage on Pin8 of U4 is -26V.
The Port is turned on.
Sidetone is set to U8-4 and I can hear it when I go to STL.
Any suggestions?
Tnx
Tony

You mean you see an echo when you short 2 and 3 of what you
type? Shorting at the cable end for the K2? Or...?
I'm afraid I can't help from here - I don't have an RS-232
capable K2!
If you've enabled the port in the menu, and made sure
the cabling is correct, it sounds like an email to
supprt@elecraft would be the next step. Did you check
the manual for troubleshooting hints?
Or post again to the List - I'm sure someone's been
there before.
(Doubt I'll ever cable the PC to my K2. I generally prefer
hands-on ops and don't want to drag a computer into the Shack...)
