[Elecraft] LCD diffuser and LCD protective backing

Hi all--

Another build question.  On p. 25-26 of the manual (Rev. B) the LCD
diffuser is installed, followed by the LCD itself.  We're told to leave
both sides of the diffuser backing in place.  Then the LCD is installed
over the diffuser and at a later step the front LCD protective film is removed.

Here's the question:  When, if at all, does the protective backing from
the top of the diffuser get removed?  Is it supposed to stay in place and 
the light goes right through the backing?  I already soldered D2 and D3,
pinching the backing on the bottom of the diffuser in place between the
diffuser plastic and the spacers, so I guess that's not going anywhere...

Thanks for the help.  The kit is going together pretty painlessly and so
far it looks great!
