[Elecraft] K2 Low Battery Warning

The K2 has a low battery warning function which according to the 
manual displays a LO BATT message every 8 minutes on the display when 
the battery voltage is below about 11V. What the manual doesn't 
mention is that it also gives a beep at the same time - or it does in 
firmware v 2.01h.

When operating portable with my 4AH external gel cell there is still 
a lot of operating time left in the battery at 11V - certainly there 
is usable power down to 10V, and Steve GW4ALG operating in last 
year's Power Management Challenge could still operate at much reduced 
output even down to 9V.

The bleep alert is most annoying as it always occurs during transmit 
(when the volts drop) and hence in the middle of CW sending. It 
throws ones concentration right off balance, as happened several 
times during last week's NFD.

There seems to be no way of either turning off the bleep (and leaving 
the display warning) or adjusting the warning threshold such that it 
occurs at a lower value.

Any comments?
