I remember that doggone woodpecker. Drove me to play more on 15 and 40
than 20.

The noise you are experiencing is from the computer and its RS-232 lines
switching as they signal the K2. The easiest way to suppress, or even 
eliminate
the noise is to use one of the clamp-on iron or ferrite cores on the 
serial cable
from the PC to the K2. Radio Shack has a nice relatively small one, 
although I
have found  them more cheaply at surplus houses.
