[Elecraft] K2 Mods before building KPA-100

No reason to wait, George:
The whole "drift" issue only came to light when some very careful ops
checked their sigs.. and drift became an on-air issue mostly among those
running VERY narrow band modes like PSK-31. Still, without the mod
temperature extremes can cause your signal to move as much as 200 Hz or =
so -
but it moves s-l-o-w-l-y so it's not likely going to be noticed by =
anyone on
the air. And that much drift is only on SOME bands. The amount of drift
varies a lot because there is a little drift in BOTH the BFO and "VFO" =
(PLL
Reference Oscillator used for a Local Oscillator) and on some bands =
their
drift adds to make the total worse while on other bands they subtract =
and
cancel each other out.=20
Bottom line, the anti-drift mod is VERY worthwhile to ensure that you =
have
the most stable signal possible, even when sitting in the sun on a hot =
day
or cooking the rig with the KPA100 mounted on it at full power output =
over
time. For the low cost and simplicity, it's worth the small investment =
in
money and time.
But I wouldn't hesitate to operate without it installed, nor would I =
expect
to need to apologize for my signal in any way.=20

It was suggested that I do the mods to bring my K2 up to revision B =
before
building the KPA-100. So I ordered everything I needed last week. Found =
out
today that the K2 Temp Comp PLL upgrade is backordered for 2 to 3 weeks.
Other than maybe some drift problem, is there any reason to postpone the =
KPA
construction and use before this mod is done? Was hoping to have this by
field day so I could use a long wire, etc. with the KAT-100 that my son =
is
building now.
