I'd like to see a net on 40, 30, and 20 (as previously posted) - and if we run
later into the evening - it shouldn't be much of a problem with propagation for
the lower bands. For example - start off on 20m for most folks who are just
getting home from work (2300-0000), 30m later in the evening/after dinner
(0100-0200), and a 'hoot owl' net on 40m (0300-0400).
It might be easier if we had a NCS from the Eastern US for the 20m net (since
they are more likely to be home/available at that time), Central US for 30m,
and Western US for 40m (more likely to be awake). This also keeps the net from
burning out any one particular individual (by having one person run all three
nets). Learning how to be a NCS with CW is an excellent way to improve your
operating skill. Maybe we can swap NCS duty between individuals so other folks
can learn :)
In a post from a month or two back, I suggested using QRP frequencies +2 kHz
for the CW net (because of the famous K"2"). That would result in 7042, 10108,
and 14062. It seemed easy enough to remember. I've also proposed these as
places we can 'romp around' on to find other K2/K1 ops anytime day or night.
I don't see any profit in us trying to recreate the National Traffic System
with our net (passing check-in info on 20 from regional 40/80m nets). It might
be better if we chose a different night a week for a different band (Mon 20,
Tue 30, Thur 40), or maybe all three in one night (Fri 20/30/40)? We could
rotate the schedule on a non-weekly basis (e.g. every five days) to make it
easier for folks who have dedicated commitments certain days/evenings of the
week (classes, church, family nights, etc). Maybe we would only meet on the
5th, 10th, 15th, 20th, 25th, and 30th day of each month.
Sorry for brainstorming on the e-mail list - if I keep bantering about how to
run the net, we may need to start a separate list for the Elecraft Nets (Sorry
Eric and Wayne).

p.s. I'm volunteering for the 30m net NCS, but I'm not a QRO station, and my
Buddipole is less than 'ideal' - and that's my entire station - ready to go at
a moments notice.
