I think the ideal would be to run a counterpoise wire approx. 1/4 wavelen=
gth
of the band you're using. If you run more than one band then run a
counterpoise for each.=0D

In my Novice days, my shack was in my bedroom on the second floor of my
parents house. My antenna was a wire that stretched from my window to th=
e
garage. My Transmitter was a Drake 2NT and my ground system was a wire
running to the steam radiator in my room. What did I know about grounds?
NOTHING! All I knew was that it was big hunk of metal hooked up to other
big hunks of metal. Anyway, one day, as I was transmitting, my bare foot
grazed the radiator. OOUUUUCHHH! I can still feel the RF burn!=0D

If you use a counterpoise, make sure it's insulated wire and make sure yo=
u
tape the end with some electrical tape! =0D

Hi Guys, I'm hoping to get a 125 feet long wire up in the garden at about=
=0D
30 feet off ground. Gonna match it with KAT1 ATU. K1-4 is 40/30/20/15m. H=
ow=0D
important is it to use ground radials. Also, do I need a separate RF eart=
h=0D
at only 5W QRP? (TVI??). K1 ground will be connected to mains power earth=
=0D
via power supply. The mains power earth to house is via u/g cable (steel=0D
armour in contact with ground) so will be a good connection to mass of=0D
earth.=0D
=0D
I can put some copper in the ground if necessary for separate RF earth bu=
t=0D
don't want to make work for myself if I don't need to since I'm only usin=

5W CW.=0D

Any thoughts?=0D
