[Elecraft] KAT2 and KPA100 co-exist?

I understand that the K2 antenna tuner (KAT2) and K2 100 W amp (KPA100) are 
incompatible.

Can someone clarify:

Could I still install both of these and just use the KAT2 up to 15 or so 
watts, and then bump the power up once I have a good match, or am I asking 
for trouble because

a) the tuner is actually in the TX signal path and as soon as I increase 
power I'll destroy it

and/or

b) the KAT2 and KPA100 physically cannot fit in the same box

...?
