Hi Dave,

Here's my view of how it works: when you change the sidetone pitch, the 
new pitch is used in the calculation of the frequency shown on the 
display.  I think the pitch setting is only an adjustment to the way the 
display and sidetone generation works, and does not change BFO or PLL 
frequencies.  When you run CAL FIL, the BFO frequency is changed to 
place the signal where you want it in the passband, and an offset to the 
PLL is calculated to compensate so the display still reads correctly.

Perhaps Wayne or someone else more knowlegeable than I would comment on 
why it isn't 'fully automatic'.
