[Elecraft] low output on 12m/10m

Mike
Wire wound resistors make a very poor dummy load. They have inductive
reactance,
and will upset the reading of your swr/power detector.
You can find fairly inexpensive 50 ohm dummy loads at Radio Shack, for
example.
I think Ten-Tec also sells a dummy load kit.
You really need a good known dummy load for your shack.
Good luck and 73

Subject: [Elecraft] low output on 12m/10m

Hi,

Finishing up my K2 (very recent rev B). All is well, except for the
following:

1. 40m tx alignment: pg 72 of manual (rev E) expects current drain at
5 W to be
1.3-1.6 A but mine is only 700 mA, similarly at
10 W,
expected drain is 1.8-2.0 A and mine is only 840
mA

                        I'm using two 100 ohm 10 W wire-wound resistors
in parallel as
my quick and dirty dummy load, if this is
relevant...

2. tx alignment: on pg 74 of manual - I successfully peaked output on
all bands
except 10m and 12m - in both cases I get the HI CUR
warning and
can only get 0.1 or 0.2 W out

I saw the app note on T2, making sure there's lots
of coverage
of both windings, and of elevating T2 off of the PCB
- both
                    of which I've done

I'll probably do the signal tracing (as a learning experience) anyway,
but thought I
might be able to fix this beforehand.

Thanks for any help,
Mike
