Well, I just pulled down my /p station here on Martha's Vineyard and am
ready to take the trip back to the home qth in the morning after a great
month. The K2 (barefoot -- I switched back to the stock lid) behaved
beautifully despite the rotten band conditions, and I was able to work a
bunch of other K2s. I was also able to take advantage of being on the
island to have a good time in the IOTA contest.
But my main interest in writing is to note that the vfo mod is really
effective. I did this mod a long time ago, but never was able truly to
test it, since my shack has fairly constant temperature. However, here in
my /p shack in the loft of a converted barn, the temperature variations
were quite high. During the heat of the day, in the uninsulated loft, the
temperature went often into the high nineties, while at night it could drop
off into the low sixties. Over this range, I noticed no measurable
temperature variation after about 20 minutes of warm up. Within 20 minutes
of power-up, there would be a change of about 40Hz -- then complete
stability. Sure can't complain.
best wishes,
