Tom,
Sure sounds like an intermittent connection to me. Check soldering, then
check soldering, and finally check soldering!!!
I would go back and repeat the probe test you did before (I believe that
would be the BFO test - in any case, use a different test point). Wiggle
the probe to see if it shows an intermittent - if it does, look carefully at
the probe for a loose connection (that means removing the shrink wrap -
sorry). If the probe seems stable at a different test point, then check the
soldering of the TP1 post carefully first - follow that by looking at the
schematic and checking the soldering of the components that are connected to
TP1. Bet you will find it.

| Just reached Alignment Part II: VCO test
| I am getting a reading of 0000.00 unless I reach over and wiggle the probe
| connected to TP1. Then the readings are all over the place. I looked
| carefully at the surrounding resistors/caps and everything looks good, as
| far as soldering is concerned...Could not find any thing in
troubleshooting
| that could lead me out of the wilderness...any suggestions? Is it
possible
| that the probe is not good? It worked on the preceding test...
