Julian and All,

I agree with your post, and I have been using PSK31 for the same length of 
time.  What you meant to say below, was that you need a narrow IF 
filter.  A narrow AF filter just keeps the sound card from overloading, but 
the receiver AGC will decrease the signal level first.  A strong signal in 
the IF bandpass of the receiver will cause the receiver gain to 
decrease.  If the AGC is on, the AGC will decrease all signals in the 
bandpass.  If the AGC is off, the receiver desense will decrease all 
signals in the IF bandpass, if the signal is strong enough.  A lot of 
Pactor II signals are in this category, and they transmit without listening 
first.  The K2 is better than any receiver I have tried which includes the 
Ten-Tec Omni-VI, but it still desenses on a signal strong enough.

As far as operating, I always run with the AGC off, with AF gain about 3/4 
and control level with RF gain.  Helps some.
