[Elecraft] cw operating question

My K2 runs permanently in "SPLIT" mode. That way I tune the receiver
separately from the transmitter using the main tuning control. Adjusting =
the
tuning knob during a QSO has no effect whatsoever on the transmitter
frequency.=20
When I tune in a signal I want to call, or find a clear frequency on =
which
to make a call, I just hit the A=3DB button to put the transmitter on =
the
receiver frequency and I'm zero beat and ready to transmit.=20
RIT is nice, but I sometimes forget to turn it off, it has limited =
range,
and I have to remember to turn it off or the next time I make a call I =
won't
be transmitting on the same frequency that I'm receiving on!=20
Having been "raised" on separate transmitters and receivers way back in =
the
50's, SPLIT is much more "intuitive" for me.

The RIT control is definitely one of the ways you can and should =
compensate
for transmitter drift by the station you are working. Unfortunately, =
some
folks use their VFO to adjust the receive pitch to their liking. Of =
course,
that also moves their transmit frequency...
