[Elecraft] Mods Not Fun....not fun at all!

Bill,
I recommend that you think about the mods in a different manner -- you don't
have to do any!!!
The mods are not mandatory - your K2 will continue to perform as well as
when it was built without adding any mods at all.
Building a K2 now and adding no mods is the equivalent of buying one of
'competitors' rigs and deciding never to send it back to the factory to be
updated.
The process at work on this reflector is that any and all mods are discussed
(sometimes at great length). Everything is out in the open for public
discussion. We can chose to put them on our particular K2 or not. The only
exception is some mods are required when adding a new option - the KPA100
for instance requires the bandpass filter mods and the temperature stability
mods are recommended.
So for the bottom line - no mods need to be applied to any K2 as long as you
are satisfied with the current performance level and do not upgrade it by
adding additional options (which may or may not require mods for an older
K2). There are a lot of us devoted folks who do want our K2 to be up and
running with the latest and greatest at all times, so we do the mods as they
are published. Elecraft has taken great strides to make that possible with
their kitting of many of the mods - my hat is off to the Elecraft crew - I
have never seen an equal in my dealings with any manufacturer before and
that is after 47 years of hamming!!!
