Snip
I don't know the tolerances of the current K1s (I got #175
in November 2000), but it was a common problem then that a
very small gap, almost invisible, existed between the four
corners of the FP board and the associated fastening blocks
on the main case (even with the proper length pins on the
FP-to-RF board connectors). Since only one screw actually
attaches the FP board to anything firmly, a rattling vibration
of the ends of the FP board at certain audio frequencies
resulted. The improvement in FP button firmness was just
a side benefit to the installation of foam tape pads on the
four corners of the FP board.
Maybe subsequent K1s have had some small tweak, such a slight
lengthening of the FP standoff spacer, because this topic
disappeared off this list a couple of years ago, until recently.

My K1 #1534 (a fairly recent one) FP board gives a little when I press
buttons in the top left corner. It hasn't really botherd me, though I would
like to firm it up. I assumed that this is how all K1's are. I will open it
up and see if I can use a bit of sticky pad to firm it up as suggested.
