Adding the KPA100 to a K2 is basically plug'n'play.  There are not mods of
any substance to do, and in the current K2 rev I suspect there are no mods
required at all.  Download the manuals and study them and your questions
will be answered.

It depends on what you want.  The K2 with DSP (I'm showing my bias here) is
a capable SSB rig that only lacks passband tuning as a basic SSB feature,
and the DSP helps a lot in that regard.
