[Elecraft] K2/100 an Integrated Kit?

I'm thinking about building a K2/100 and would 
like to know if doing so necessarily involves 
first building a complete K2, and then "modding" 
it to include the 100 watt power amplifier.  Or 
can the assembly process be integrated to cut out 
construction steps that would have to be later 
undone in performing the PA mod?

P.S.  While I enjoy CW, I probably spend less time 
using that mode of communication than using SSB.  
I know the K2 is SSB capable, but, for someone 
like me planning to use the rig, say, 80 percent 
of the time for SSB, is the K2 a good choice to 
build a station around?  I really enjoy kit 
building (the K2 would replace my 30+ year old 
HW101), but don't want to compromise on operating 
enjoyment down the road when the building's over.
