I can't tell you if you have the protective coating on back or not, but 
I had the same dilemma when I built mine.  After examining it with 
several magnifying glasses, I decided there wasn't one and I proceeded 
to install the panel.  Either I was correct or it doesn't make much 
difference, because mine seems to work fine.  The front protective 
coating isn't all that obvious either, but I could eventually see it. 
 Look for the edges.  You are right that the manual indicates there MAY 
be a covering on the back, which adds to the uncertainty.  After the 
fact, I'm wondering if someone DID have a rear protective coating on 
theirs and, if so, perhaps they could describe it to the rest of us. 
 For all I know, it might be opaque or otherwise real obvious that it's 
there.
