[Elecraft] KNB2: The Noise Blanker of the Gods

All:

I'm submitting this post as a VERY subjective observation of the
performance of the Elecraft KNB2 Noise Blanker option for the
K2 transceiver. During Field Day, I began to notice an odd form
of noise that at first appeared to be one of simple atmospheric
origin, but later looked like something local and artificial.

I have come to call this annoyance The Noise from Hell (NFH).
This noise takes the form of a "hashy" noise that lasts about 2
minutes and recurs roughly every 5. I haven't actually timed it,
but its S9 + signal nonetheless makes even casual contacts
between difficult and impossible.

Unless, of course, you plunked down the measly $35.00 for the
KNB2 Noise Blanker option for your K2. One or two keystrokes
and the NFH is almost gone. It saved my bacon more than once
during the FD festivities.

The big reason I mention this is because I just received a brand
new transceiver whose name refers to the constellation commonly
known as "The Hunter". I have been able to ascertain that its noise
blanker, at least up to this point, appears to be vastly inferior to that
of the K2. I have a post on Yahoo! just in case someone knows
something I don't (a great likelihood).
