[Elecraft] k2 handkey muting problem

before i ask my question let me start that i had my post field day op =
party since i worked for field day.  i got an australia station and a =
mobil station in hawaii from beaumont tx, plus plenty of state contacts =
all on ssb, plus one cw contact in florida.  for extra credit i always =
give my elecraft sales pitch gotta keep the company goin to give me time =
to get all the goodies i need.  now on to my question.  while operating =
in either usb or lsb and u have the handkey connected and u keydown the =
radio goes mute like your transmitting in ssb. its always done this so i =
believe this is normal.  while i was in a qso i was tapping the handkey =
with my pen and the volume dropped out of my radio.  the best way i can =
describe it is i could still hear the other station but it sounded like =
the attenuator came on but it was really low it almost sounded better =
cause all the static atmospheric noise was gone. hitting the handkey =
again brought it back to full volume. i did a lil experiment and tapped =
it a couple times to make it do it again then unplugged the handkey and =
it didnt change the volume was still gone almost. to get it back to =
normal you either have to cycle the power change the filter setting or =
plug in the handkey and transmit or transmit with the mic.  i was =
running a k2/100 with the kat100 tuner and all options except for the =
kaf2 or kdsp options.  whatever it is it happens when u bring the =
keyline i believe u call it together.  i know i should not even be =
messing with the handkey in usb or lsb mode but even if i did this =
should not happen right?  i was on good antennas brand new one of them =
at the clubhouse so i dont beleive this is a rfi issue this time.  other =
than that my radio performed flawless
